Two or three 2 1/2- to 3-inch plastic-foam balls or a small plastic container
Toothpicks
1 1/4 cups of soap flakes (such as Ivory Snowª)
2/3 cup of water
Tape
Waxed paper
2 small twigs
1 jumbo craft stick or table knife
2 buttons
Scissors
Construction paper
Pins or tape
STEP 1
First make the snowman body. Use two or three 2 1/2- to 3-inch plastic-foam balls. Cut the bottom off one of the balls so the body will stand up. With adult help, push a toothpick halfway into the top of one ball. Then push the rest of the toothpick into a second ball.
Repeat these steps to add a third ball. Or, use a small plastic container for the body. Cut a hole in each side to punch the arms through.
STEP 2
Now make the soapy snow! In a mixer bowl combine the soap flakes and water. Then beat with an electric mixer on high speed untill their fluffy. Makes about 1 3/4 cups snow.
STEP 3
First, tape a piece of waxed paper to your work surface. Then push the twigs into the snowman body. That's for the arms!
Use the jumbo craft stick to spread the soapy snow all over the snowman body. But don't spread it on the bottom. If the soapy snow begins to harden while you work, don't worry. Just stir in a few drops of water!
STEP 4
For the snowman eyes, press the buttons into the wet soapy snow. Then let your snowman dry completely.
Finally, cut 2 feet out of the construction paper and pin them to the bottom of the snowman. Congratulations! You've made a soapy snowman!
